20 February 2019 , ,

The Kingsburg City Band is steeped in rich history. As any member of a concert band knows the concert cannot go on without the director. What About the Gaps?

You may notice that there are a few gaps in the list. While some of them are due to the fact that we are missing the data others have an interesting reason. Most will remember a significant world event during 1943 and 1944; World War II. This was the hight of the war and it was in the best interest of the war effort to fore go the concerts during this time.

Noteable Directors

While looking at the above list you will notice some names show up many times and have a lot of time listed in front of them. The current Director, Dale Engstrom, will be with us 42 years this season. The next longest running Director was Dale's Father, Walter Engstrom, at 15 years. It is not uncommon to still see him out there enjoying the band. Behind the Engstroms the runner ups only have nine years to their names, and it was the trio from 1910-1918: Bila Purt, Wesley Tildon, Loas Everson. Regardless of how long any of the directors were with us they all played a major role in building, shaping, and carrying on the legacy of The Kingsburg City Band.
